Connecting Handheld devices

Each Mobileezy handheld device must be connected to the Desktop Administrator in order for synchronisation of data to occur.  Connection can be completed manually or via an automatically generated Connection ID.

Connecting the devices using a connection ID is a simple process that will avoid the need to enter an IP address, configure the router or a firewall.

When to Connect the Handheld devices        When to Connect Handheld Devices to Desktop Administrator.

This step must be completed every time you need to setup the connection of a new Handheld Device to the Desktop Administrator.  Except in rare circumstances, this will only be completed once for each device.  Some examples of when you will complete this step are:

New Installation: On initial installation, after installing the Mobileezy Handheld App
New User: When a new user is added to your user count
Lost Handheld: If a handheld device is lost or broken and the Mobileezy Handheld App is installed on a new device.

Connecting the Handheld using a Connection ID        Connecting with a Connection ID -During Installation

The connection between the Desktop Administrator and the handheld is initiated on the desktop.  A connection ID is generated from the desktop and then entered into the handheld.

Follow the instructions below if you are installing Mobileezy and connecting the handhelds for the first time.

1.Click on the Connect Handheld button in the Mobileezy Configuration Assistant.

2.Click Yes at the warning dialog
3.You will receive a new connection ID.

4.Open Mobileezy and enter the connection ID provided using the buttons.  Press Ok when complete.

5.The Mobileezy Handheld App will automatically synchronise with the Desktop Administrator, bringing information from the Accounting System to the handheld device.  Tap OK when the synchronisation is complete.

Note: If you are not receiving a Connection ID prompt when opening the app.  Follow instructions for Connecting the Handheld using a Connection ID (After Installation).

The connection between the Desktop Administrator and the handheld is initiated on the desktop.  A connection ID is generated from the desktop and then entered into the handheld.

Follow the instructions below if Mobileezy is already installed

1.On the Desktop Administrator, go to Setup > Users and highlight the handheld username by clicking on it.
2.Press the Connect Handheld Device button and then press Yes at the warning dialog.

3.A connection ID will be displayed in a dialog box.

4.Open the Mobileezy Handheld App,
a.If you are prompted with the connection dialog, enter the Connection ID

b.If you are not prompted with the connection dialog, tap on the Synchronisation_Sync Icon (sync icon), then tap the Android back button.
c.Tap the Android menu control and select Enter Code from the menu.
d.Type the Connection ID in the dialog.

5.The Mobileezy Handheld App will automatically synchronise with the Desktop Administrator, bringing information from the Accounting System to the handheld device.  Tap OK when the synchronisation is complete.

Note:  This will override any other handheld devices that have been connected for that handheld user.

Connecting the Handheld Device using Connection ID after initial instalation        Manual Setup of Synchronisation

To manually configure the synchronisation:

1.Tap the back button twice if prompted by the Connection dialog
2.Tap on the Search Icon in the top right corner of the screen

3.Enter the sync IP address in the field next to the Add button.
4.Press the add button to add the address to the server addresses field.  You can add multiple IP addresses if you wish to synchronise via different methods.
For Wif-Fi synchronisation, enter the IP address of the computer that is running the Sync Server.
For 3G synchronisation, enter the public IP address for your company.  3G Sync will also require you to set up port forwarding on your wifi router and a static IP address will be required.  Contact your ISP to arrange this.
5.Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each IP address you will be syncing with.
6.Enter the handheld username and then press the Back button.

7.Press the sync button to synchronise the handheld.

Finding Your External IP Address        Finding Your Public IP address

The Public IP address is a number specific to your your companies' internet connection and defines your exact location in the internet.  It is this address that allows the Mobileezy Handheld App to know where to synchronise the data to.

To locate the Public IP address for you company, open an internet browser and type "what is my IP" into a Google search box. Your Public IP address will be displayed at the top of the search results.

In order for the Mobileezy Handheld App to synchronise data via wi-fi it must be given the local IP address of the computer running the Sync Server.  Except in complex setups this is usually the computer on which the Desktop Administrator is installed.

1.To find your local IP address you must use the windows command prompt application.  To launch command prompt:

1.From the start menu
2.Select Run....
3.Type cmd in the field

1.Move your mouse to the right side of the screen to launch the menu
2.Select search
3.Type cmd in the search field
4.Select Command Prompt from the list of applications located
2.With command prompt launched, type ipconfig in the command line and press enter.

3.Scroll down to the heading Wireless Lan adapter Wi-Fi. The number next to IPv4 address is the local IP address. Note.  This number should start with 192.168.....

Changing the IP Address or Adding a New Address        Changing the IP Address or Adding a New Address

The IP Address for synchronisation can be changed or a new IP address added at any time.  You may need to do this if your public IP address changes or you need to add an IP address due to the addition of a new synchronisation method.

To add or delete an IP address:

1.From the main handheld screen tap on the synchronisation icon
2.Tap on the Android menu control and select Server Setup.

3.To add a new address, type the address in the field next to the Add button.  Then press the Add button.

4.To delete an existing address, tap on the address you wish to delete in the Server Addresses field and then press the DEL button.

Setting Up Port Forwarding for 3G Sync        Port Forwarding Settings for 3G sync

Port forwarding must be configured on your router for external synchronisation to function.  Mobileezy use the following settings for port forwarding:

Service type or protocol type = TCP
Inbound ports = 54937

 

The exact steps for router configuration are different for each brand of routers, please refer to the instructions provided by your router brand.
