Item properties are managed under the Item Properties tab under the Setup icon.  When setting up the item properties, you will first need to define the item property and then assign the property to the items for which you want to record the property.  You can have any number of different properties and these can be assigned to any number of different items, although each item can only be assigned up to 3 property types.

When to Use Item Properties        When to Use Item Properties

Item properties should be used whenever you want to record additional information about an item during sale or stock transactions.  Some specific examples of this are:

1. Recording colour, size, flavour or style

You sell products that come in a number of different flavours, such as yoghurt or ice cream and you want the user to pick from a list to record this during sales.  In this case you would create a List item property adding each of the flavour varieties to the list.  You would then assign the property to the affected SKU's.

2. Recording a date on the item

- sim serial numbers

- product serial numbers

- registration numbers of vehicles ie doing work on a car.

-

3. Scanning EAN barcodes to automatically record batch number, production date, serial number etc on the

You distribute product that comes barcoded with EAN compliant barcodes including batch number and production date which you need to record for every sale in case of possible future product recalls.  In this case you would setup 2 item properties one for EAN Batch Number Field and the other for EAN Production Date Field and then you would assign these to all the barcoded product lines.
