Random weights are administered in the Desktop Administrator under the Setup icon, Advanced UOM tab and Advanced UOM Management tab.  When completing the setup it is important to remember that the unit that it is sold in is referred to as the Secondary UOM and the unit that the price is calculated on is the Primary UOM. The primary unit of measure is usually derived from the Accounting System, however it can also entered directly into Mobileezy.

Random weights are used when a product is sold by the unit but the price for each unit varies as it is calculated based upon the units' weight.

When to use Random Weights        When to use Random Weights

Random weights are used when some (or all) of your products are sold in individual units but the price of each unit depends upon its actual weight.  It is particularly useful when you have field or office sales reps who sell individual units that are later picked and shipped with the final price to the customer determined by the actual weight of the picked unit.

Entering the Primary Unit of Measure        Entering the Primary Unit of Measure

The Primary Unit of Measure is either imported from the Accounting System or entered directly into Mobileezy.  It will not be possible to complete the following steps if the primary UOM has been imported directly from the Accounting System.

To enter the primary unit of measure directly into Mobileezy:

1.Open Setup > Advanced UOM > Advanced UOM Management
2.Locate the item by using the scroll bar on the right hand side and reordering the columns by clicking in the title bar.
3.Click in the Primary Barcode column and enter the primary unit of measure.

Entering a Random Weight Item        Entering a Random Weight Item

There are three fields that will need to be completed for an item that is measured in Random Weights.  These are entered in the Advanced UOM Management tab.

1.Primary Unit of Measure:  This is the unit in which the price is calculated.  Usually the weight unit such as gm or kg.
2.Secondary Unit of Measure:  This is the unit in which the item is sold.  Usually individual (ea) or box/carton units.
3.Random Weight tick box: This field triggers Mobileezy capture the secondary unit during the sales or picking transaction and to then calculate the price of the item based upon the customers price for the primary unit of measure.

When and How to Use Pack Weight        When and How to Use Pack Weight

Pack Weight should be used when an item is sold in units of approximately the same weight, but where the exact weight may differ from pack to pack and the price depends upon the actual weight of the sold unit.  When pack weight is setup for an item, the random weight field on the handheld will be automatically populated with the pack weight during a sale where it can then be adjusted by the sales rep or later by the warehouse picker.

To use pack weight:

1.Complete the steps for setting up a Random Weight item
2.Enter the pack weight for the item in the pack weight field (in units of the primary unit of measure)

Random Weights on the Handheld        Random Weights on the Handheld

When entering sales for items with random weights configured, the handheld will allow you to enter both a unit quantity and a unit or total weight.  The item price will be calculated from the weight recorded.

To enter the random weight:

1.Enter a new sale as described in Sales Transactions
2.When an item with random weights configured is selected, the Item Information screen contains both a Qty and a Wght (weight) field.

3.Select the quantity of units (Secondary Unit).  If Pack Weight is configured, the Wght field will automatically calculate to equal the Pack Weight x the qty of items.  If the Pack Weight is not configured, enter the total weight of the item. In both cases, the total price of the item is the quantity in the Wght field x the price
